VLAN Priority¶
802.1p, also known as IEEE P802.1p or Priority Code Point, is a method of tagging packets at layer 2 with a specific quality of service priority.
pfSense software supports VLAN Priorities in VLAN configuration (VLAN Configuration Options) as well as in firewall rules (VLAN Priority (Match and Set)).
There are eight levels of priority for 802.1p, and each has an associated two-letter code. In order from the lowest priority to the highest, they are:
- PCP 0, BK:
Background
- PCP 1, BE:
Best Effort – This is the default priority when no PCP is specified.
- PCP 2, EE:
Excellent Effort
- PCP 3, CA:
Critical Applications
- PCP 4, VI:
Video
- PCP 5, VO:
Voice
- PCP 6, IC:
Internetwork Control
- PCP 7, NC:
