TNSR 25.06 Release Notes¶

About the TNSR 25.06 Release¶

This is a regularly scheduled TNSR software release including new features and bug fixes.

General¶

Warning

Dataplane ACL and NAT functions are still in place for this release. However, the dataplane NAT plugin is deprecated and will be removed in TNSR 25.10. TNSR will continue to include dataplane ACL functionality.

Dataplane NAT users should migrate to VPF Network Address Translation as soon as possible.

CLI Command Changes¶

All service commands are now available in basic mode, previously they were only available in config mode.
interface clear counters is now clear interface counters and is available in basic mode.
reboot is now available in basic mode.
Clixon configuration with the cli command is now possible in basic mode.
The configuration commands in config mode have been renamed to db and made available in basic mode. The old syntax is still available within config mode, so existing workflows will not be disrupted.

This also includes show configuration commands which are now show db. The previous syntax is still available for the time being.
The write-running-configuration alias is now available in basic mode.

All of these changes have been updated in the command list and throughout the documentation.

New Features¶

VPF high availability state synchronization:

VPF can share connection state information between high availability peers, so ongoing connections can remain active if a node fails.

It is now possible to view and clear VPF connection state entries from within TNSR. In both cases, the entire table can be viewed, or matching criteria can limit the output.

Unnumbered IPv4 interfaces:

Interfaces can be configured as unnumbered so they can still process IPv4 packets without having an IPv4 address. This is useful in certain routing scenarios where transit networks are impractical.

TNSR now supports dynamic routing with the Intermediate System to Intermediate System (IS-IS) interior gateway protocol (IGP).

FRR “unmanaged” mode:

TNSR now allows administrators familiar with FRR to directly manage manual configuration data for FRR. This can enable configuration scenarios which are supported by FRR but not possible in TNSR, but the burden is on the administrator to maintain the FRR configuration.

This release includes support for a new automatically generated CLI configuration mode, autocli-config. This mode uses the data model directly to determine command syntax.

Proxy ARP:

TNSR can now utilize Proxy ARP to answer ARP requests for IPv4 addresses not bound to any interface. This can aid with receiving traffic for blocks of addresses inside a directly connected subnet.
